Circulation Services
The main Circulation desk is the heart of the library. This is the nexus for checking out and returning library materials and numerous other book functions: interlibrary loans, new book requests, and sale book purchases, to name a few.
The desk staff are always happy to provide assistance to members with the card and online catalogs and with locating materials in the library. For more in-depth information about a subject, you will want to stop by our Reference department.
The Circulation desk is also the focal point for membership information and members’ account updates. Ongoing events information and future program details are readily available here. Additionally, the desk provides newsletters and monthly program cards as well as occasional announcements of other local library or cultural events.
There is a selection of Providence Athenaeum souvenirs available for purchase at the desk such as magnets, note cards and various Athenaeaum publications including the Philbrick Award chapbooks.
Circulation staff happily give out directions for visitors and, upon request, recommendations for local points of interest.
Whether it is paying fines (thank you!), giving a gift membership, picking up a Raven tour guide or contributing Eastside Marketplace receipts, see the Circulation desk first!
- Visitors are asked to leave large knapsacks and bags either in the coatrack alcove near the desk or with a staff member at the Circulation desk.
- As a courtesy to members and guests in the library, cell phone use is not allowed.
- The Library’s book drop is outside the back door; please use only when Library is closed (and kindly do not drop in audiovisual items.) Many thanks!
